Program Summary:
The Nonprofits Assistance Fund, formerly Community Loan Technologies, is an intermediary organized as a support organization of the Minneapolis Foundation. It assists nonprofits in Minnesota and adjacent communities in the Upper Midwest region. Its mission is to build financially healthy nonprofit organizations that foster community vitality. The fund (1) provides loans that offer financial support and flexibility; (2) helps organizations implement healthier financial practices through training and resources; and (3) offers strategic financial guidance. Its work helps nonprofits realize their own visions of sustainability, transformation and success.
The revolving loan fund has made over 1,700 loans totaling $73 million to nonprofits in every field of service. Loans of $5,000 to $500,000 are available for working capital, short term cash flow needs and capital projects. In addition to providing financing, staff works with the management and boards of organizations to plan for long-term financial stability through financial management training workshops and one-to-one technical assistance. A variety of on-line publications and resources are also available, including relevant studies and articles, useful links, and financial reporting templates and models.
Partners in this effort include the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the McKnight Fund, the Minnesota Department of Health's Office of Rural Health and Primary Care, Calvert Foundation, and numerous financial institutions.
